Sandy Creek flows through Monroe County, emptying into Lake Ontario west of Rochester in the Town of Hamlin. At the mouth of Sandy Creek there is a boat launch which gives anglers the ability to access Lake Ontario for excellent fishing for salmon, steelhead, and brown trout in the spring and fall. In the summer anglers can fish for smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, perch, pike, crappie, catfish and carp. Upstream of the lake, Sandy Creek offers excellent spin casting, fly fishing and float fishing opportunities. Fall runs of Coho salmon, Atlantic salmon, brown trout and king salmon offer good opportunities for anglers. Runs of rainbow trout (steelhead) occur in late fall and early spring, offering additional angler enjoyment. This diverse fishery attracts anglers from all over the county to come experience it.
